More detailed information about many events, and registration forms for Badge and Championship events, are given in the SA Orienteer, which is posted to all club members.
CrossCountry: These events are
generally held on Sundays over the period from March until October, in
bushland areas ranging from national parks near Adelaide such as
ParaWirra and Belair, to more distant areas such as the Flinders
Ranges. Some low key events are also held on Wednesdays. Several event
classifications apply, depending on the nature of the competition.
These include competitive events in age classes, such as the
‘Orienteerof the Year’ (OY) events, Badge events and State
Championships.
Street/Park: These
events utilise streets, parkland and small bush areas in and around
Adelaide. They are held on some Friday evenings over the Summer months
and on some Saturdays from March to September. They offer a smaller
number of easy to medium navigational difficulty courses, designed for
those who are new to the sport or who are unable to travel to some of
the more distant events.
Mountain Bike Orienteering : This
uses the same principles as foot orienteering, but is done on a
bicycle. Competitors must stay on tracks and roads between controls.
The wearing of helmets is compulsory. These events are held at the
conclusion of the main winter foot-orienteering season.
Training and Coaching :Various
training and coaching activities are held during the year, both members
and non-members are welcome. More details about these activities are
included in the OASA newsletter, or can be obtained from the OASA
Coaching Coordinator.
Rogaines:The Rogaining Association of South Australia
runs several rogaines each year.
OY denotes events which count towards Orienteer of the
Year awards
SST denotes selection trials for the State School
Team, which will go to the National Championships. Those juniors
hoping to be selected will be asked to identify their interest in
selection by writing SST and their age on their registration cards at
each SST event they attend and by running the course appropriate to
their age class. The relevant courses will be listed at each SST
event.
| How to find Events?
Signs are placed at the locations described in the
orienteering programme to direct participants to the event assembly
area. You should expect to encounter one or more of the following
signs: |

|
200 METRES |
This sign is sometimes placed before a turn off to warn the driver that the turn-off is approaching.
|
|
This is the sign usually placed at the location described in the programme. It should be readily visible to the driver of a car. The arrow points in the direction to travel.
|
|
This sign is placed along the route, when an intersection or other choice of direction is required, to indicate which direction to travel. It is sometimes also placed along a long section to provide reassurance that you are travelling in the right direction.
